About Me:

In her formative years, Dawn discovered that “the chances of finding out what’s really going on in the universe are so remote, the only thing to do is hang the sense of it and keep yourself occupied”. This led her in many divergent directions and to numerous interesting experiences. She started off wanting to save the world from the intergalactic highway through involvement in politics, international relations, and environmental law and somewhere along the line decided to chuck it all to work for an internet retail start-up company in the 90’s. This adventure led her into the stimulating realm of information technology, and the quest to do things more effectively and efficiently with the least amount of human intervention possible.
She has worked at UVa for the past 10 years in IT for the health system, UHR, and the SOM, with a brief interlude at the McIntire School of Commerce, from whence she received her Master’s in the Management of IT. Some see dead people, Dawn sees process; which, she notes, can be just as scary. Dawn has developed a fond and somewhat dependent relationship with Agile development & Lean methodology. You may often find her in her office, armed with a cup of coffee and a towel, updating her Kanban board or creating a value stream map. Her two main Douglas Adams mantras are: “Let’s think the unthinkable, let’s do the undoable. Let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.” And “Don’t Panic”.
